I’m Tiffany Yip, Professor of Psychology, and This is How I Work

I am a professor of Psychology at Fordham University and I direct the Applied Developmental Psychology doctoral program.

Location: Bronx, NY
Current Gig: Professor
One word/phrase that describes your work style: Organized
Current computer/mobile device: I have a Mac desktop in my home and school offices, a Macbook, and am always on my iPhone.

What apps/tools/software can you not live without?

My to-do-list

What’s your best time-saving shortcut or life hack?

I try to stay on top of emails daily and triage messages as they come in. If I can respond to an email immediately, I do, just to clear my plate.

What’s your workspace set up like?

I have two monitors connected to both my home and school offices, I like to be able to write on one screen and read off of another.

How do you keep track of things you need to do (any to-do-list apps)?

I cannot function without my to-do-list. We have an integrated “task” function in our email system. My emails themselves also serve as to-dos.

Besides your phone or computer, what gadget can’t you live without, and why?

Nothing, I just need my phone and computers!

What do you listen to while you work?

Nothing, I work in silence. Music is too distracting.

What are you currently reading?

What She Knew, by Gilly Macmillan

How do you recharge?

I work out daily. It clears my head.

How do you balance your work life and your home/family life?

I work 10-6, M-F.

What’s your sleep routine like?

Very regular. I study sleep, so I appreciate its importance for everyday health and functioning.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

To maintain work-life balance.
